A 38-year-old woman was shunned and thrown out of her house by her husband over the fear of contracting coronavirus.

The woman had been spending the past three months in Punjab due to the lockdown. After domestic travel resumed, she decided to return to her husband’s house in Bengaluru.

As per the Karnataka government guidelines, all in-bound passengers have to home quarantine.

When the woman returned to her husband’s home in Bengaluru, he refused to take her in, citing the transmission of coronavirus. He did not let her enter the house and told her to go quarantine somewhere else.

Left homeless, the woman approached the Varthur police and also called up the women’s helpline. The police and the women’s helpline officials then counselled the man and broke his misconceptions about the disease.

After intervention from the police and the counsellors, the woman is finally back at her home and quarantining there.

The counsellors also revealed that the couple had been having problems in their marriage for quite some time and had fought on multiple occasions in the previous years.
