The world has witnessed Japanese cuisine soaring in popularity like never before. Sushi, gyoza, ramen, and tempura are some of the dishes that people are now willing to experiment with. Indian diners too have taken a liking to Japanese cuisine, flavours and techniques. So when INJA opened its doors recently in Delhi’s vibrant food and dining space, we knew we were in for something new and different.

Culinary experiments and hours of creativity have birthed INJA – the concept dining restaurant in Friends Colony’s Manor Hotel. The name of the restaurant comes from ‘IN’ in ‘India’ and ‘JA’ in Japan. Located at the erstwhile site of Manish Malhotra’s Indian Accent, the restaurant has spacious interiors and a relaxed setting. The minimalist elements on the walls and interesting selection of Indian music in the background further intrigue and invigorate your senses.

At INJA, the idea is not to put together a simple fusion of Indian and Japanese cuisines. Rather, it brings together the best of both and creates a harmonious ‘marriage’ of both. We started off with the Shisho Leaf Tuna and Pomelo Chaat, a concept similar to the desi Palak Patta chaat but with a twist. Next, the Gobhi 65 Maki won us over with cauliflower tempura, 65 mayo and caviar on top.

Next up was the Kushiyaki, with chicken wings, tamarind and jaggery teriyaki and smoked Kashmiri chilli. The unique flavours of the Udon Khasi Curry Noodles topped with crisp zucchini and carrots made this dish a must-try.

We also thoroughly enjoyed the Jackfruit Katsu Sando, filled with a tempting curry reminiscent of the Goan Pork Vindaloo. In the signature cocktails, the Lychee Gondhoraaj Martini was refreshing and filled with bold notes.

So, if you want to try something new and unique beyond your usual Indian or Japanese fare – head to INJA for a memorable experience.
