SAO PAULO: Football legend Pele‘s medical condition has become unstable over the last few days in his battle with colon cancer, but one of his daughters on Sunday refuted reports that the 82-year-old Brazilian is under palliative or terminal care.
Pele, who had a colon tumour removed in September 2021, was moved back to a hospital last week to evaluate his condition.
According to a report in the newspaper ‘Folha de S.Paulo’, the desired results were not seen in Pele’s chemotherapy treatment and that he was now under palliative care. But his daughter Flavia Nascimento said that’s not true.
“It’s pretty unfair people saying that he is in terminal condition, that he is under palliative care. Believe us: that’s not it,” said Flavia while talking to ‘Globo TV’ and added that the cancer was not in complete remission.
It was confirmed by one of Pele’s other daughters, Kely, that the COVID-19 infection he had three weeks ago caused a respiratory infection.
“He is sick, he is old, but at the moment he is being treated for a respiratory infection and when he gets better he will be back home,” Kely was quoted by Reuters. “He is not saying goodbye in a hospital right now”.
The Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital’s medical bulletin on Saturday afternoon said that Pele was in stable condition and is currently under treatment for a respiratory infection, to which he is responding well.
