To rip-off US, China is on massive disinformation campaign to defeat me in election: Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has launched another scathing attack on China over its handling of the coronavirus pandemic and said the country is on a “massive disinformation” campaign.

In a series of tweets, Donald Trump alleged that the purpose behind this “campaign” from China is to defeat him in the US Presidential Election due later this year and “rip-off” the US.

“China is on a massive disinformation campaign because they are desperate to have Sleepy Joe Biden win the presidential race so they can continue to rip-off the United States, as they have done for decades, until I came along!” Donald Trump alleged in a tweet.

Speaking about China’s official position, he said its spokesperson speak “stupidly” and try to “desperately deflect the pain and carnage” the country has spread across the world.

“Spokesman speaks stupidly on behalf of China, trying desperately to deflect the pain and carnage that their country spread throughout the world. Its disinformation and propaganda attack on the United States and Europe is a disgrace,” Donald Trump said.

Taking a dig at Chinese President Xi Jinping, without naming him, he said, “It all comes from the top. They could have easily stopped the plague, but they didn’t!”

This is not the first time in recent weeks that Donald Trump has attacked China for its handling of the Covid-19 situation. He has been accusing, though without any substantive evidence, the World Health Organisation (WHO) of conniving with China to “cover-up” the mess it allegedly created.

Trump recently temporarily suspended his country’s funding to the WHO, thus jeopardising public health efforts across the world. In a fresh letter earlier this week, he gave the WHO one month time to reform itself, failing which he said the US would permanently suspend its funding to the WHO and may even contemplate to leave its membership.

However, up until February, Donald Trump was all praise for China and the WHO on their handling of the coronavirus situation.
