Come summers and we can’t help but think about mangoes all day. It is one of the things that keep our mind away from the scorching heat. Also called the ‘King of Fruits’, mango has been quite an object of fancy among the royals. According to popular legends, Mughal emperor Jehangir loved the fruit so much that he once said that none of the fruits in Kabul even came close. The famous Persian poet Amir Khusrau from 13th century A.D., dubbed mango as the Naghza Tarin Mewa Hindustan, the fairest fruit of Hindustan. Mango is also the national fruit of India, and almost all of us are aware of the popular variants of mangoes that are available throughout the year.

Former actress Twinkle Khanna took to Instagram to pen a heartfelt note about mangoes that is sure to make all mango-lovers relate. The post discusses the different varieties of mangoes and how it always manages to evoke sweet nostalgia for the 47-year-old, and now, her daughter is also following in her footsteps. In the picture, Nitara can be seen holding a mango in a garden. “A childhood wrapped up in mangoes. From the fresh Kairi sliced and sprinkled with salt and chilli to the abundance of its wondrous, tangy yellow pulp. A memory of tart flavours followed by a gulp of water, the aftertaste as fresh as spring water”, she wrote in the note.

Speaking about the different varieties of mangoes that has always managed to fill her household with happiness, Twinkle wrote “a decade underlined by the arrival of wooden crates filled with Dasheri, Chausa and Langra”.

“I wonder if there was a yellow stain on the corners of the mouth that lasted from April to June?
Looking at her hands reaching out, grasping sunshine and sugar captured in paisley patterns, I relive all my past summers,” she concluded her sweet ode.
