The Coronavirus pandemic had more ramifications that we probably know of. Apart from the virus scare, food security posed a huge problem for underprivileged people across the world. Community food banks brought much relief by offering food and food-related products through donations. But many people who wanted to donate did not really know what they should give to these food pantries. Many food banks reported a lot of useless stuff being given to them, which was of no help. A social media post describing useful food donations with logical explanations went viral; helping people realise what to donate, apart from making a pretty good read.

A Twitter user posted a screenshot of the list she found on the internet and decided to share it with others. She wrote: “I saw this on FB and it’s the best food pantry donation list I’ve ever seen. Usually posts like this either end up shaming the donor for what they do or don’t give, or shaming the receiver for what they do or don’t choose to eat. As a former pantry employee, I endorse!”

The list includes more than 20 foods and food-related stuff that could actually be helpful for food banks. The list explains why each item could be beneficial to be distributed to needy people.

For instance, the post explains that they get a lot of Mac and Cheese in the box, but it needs milk and butter too, which people can’t really find in food banks. Good point here! The list continues stating that boxed milk could be a good option to donate.

The post received accolades and various replies from people. Some were thankful for the post:

“Thank you so much for this! Throughout the pandemic, we’ve tried to contribute to our local food pantry each week. The volunteers passing stuff out don’t really know what to tell us to donate, so there are a ton of ideas here. Especially non-food stuff. I didn’t know!”
