Wait, What? Man Loses Weight By Eating Pizza Thrice A Day During 30-Day Challenge


Pizza is undoubtedly one of the most loved Italian dishes. The combination of a crispy crust, melted cheese, and flavourful toppings creates a winning combination that appeals to many people’s taste buds. As much as we love pizza, it’s not one of the most ideal options for someone who is on a weight loss journey. Pizza is typically high in calories, fat, and sodium, which can raise cholesterol levels and increase the risk of heart disease. But have you ever heard of someone who has lost weight by eating pizza? Yes, you heard us. Recently, a man from Northern Ireland lost weight by eating pizza thrice a day during a 30-day challenge.

According to Ladbible, a personal trainer named Ryan Mercer, ate 10 slices of pizza a day divided between breakfast, lunch and dinner, during a 30-day challenge. He somehow ended up gaining more muscles instead of bags of fat. During the challenge, Mercer decided to give up everything but pizza. He stopped eating all types of junk food and fast-food takeaways in order to prove a point about calorie deficit and health. 


He further explains how his main goal was to highlight fat loss by not restricting our favourite food. “I aimed to highlight not only fat loss about calories in and calories out but that it’s also not about restriction.” “We don’t have to restrict our favourite foods to get results and I also wanted to encourage more people to prepare their own food,” said Mercer.

Mercer said that his typical diet includes 7-10 portions of fruits and vegetables and lots of protein. But in the month of January, he had pizza thrice a day for 30 days. “Pizza is one of my all-time favourite foods, so I enjoyed eating it all month, although I did ensure I had a large variety of different pizzas to give myself some variance.” “I had two pitta pizzas and one larger dough-based pizza per day, this equated to roughly 10 slices per day,” he said.

He further explains that his daily calorie intake was set at 1,800 to 2,100 Monday to Friday and 2,700k calories Saturday and Sunday. Mercer’s daily protein intake target was 140g per day and his daily fruit and vegetable portion goal was seven portions minimum per day.

As tempting as it sounds, his weight-loss journey may not be suitable for everyone. He said that everyone is different and one should stick to a diet only if their body allows one to do so.
