It is inexplicable why we mostly crave for ‘something fried’ during evenings when hunger strikes. Pakoda is the easiest thing you can make in a jiffy to pair with your cup of tea. Aloo pakoda, paneer pakoda, mirchi pakoda, options are endless. Not denying our love for these evergreen pakodas, we sometimes itch for something different for a change in taste. Here is a recipe of dal kheera pakoda that will bring some newness to your snacks menu. It tastes great and is just as easy to make.

Traditionally, most of the pakodas are made with besan batter, but this kheera pakoda uses ground dal batter, which is spiced with ginger and green chillies. Since only dal is used as the batter and cucumber is fried coated with it, this crispy snack makes for a veg and gluten-free treat as well. The amazing pakoda recipe was shared by food vlogger Manjula Jain on her YouTube channel ‘Manjula’s Kitchen’. The video has zucchini as the man ingredient; since it is not as easily available in our country as cucumber, we can use kheera to make this pakoda.

Here’s the complete recipe of dal kheera pakoda:

Step 1 – Soak red masoor dal in water for one hour. Then grind to make smooth batter. Use just enough water you need to bend it well. Pour it in a bowl

Step 2 – Add cornstarch, salt, red chilli powder and baking soda to the batter. Mix well.

Step 3 – Then add ginger, green chillies and coriander leaves. See to it that the batter is not too thick or not too thin. Add some water, if required.

Step 4 – Cut cucumber into thick round slices. Dip the slices in the dal batter and deep fry till brown.
