3 deportees arrested on arrival for murder, sex assault; one detained
A batch of 116 illegal immigrants deported from the US arrived in Amritsar

PATIALA/KURUKSHETRA: Deportees in the second batch of 116 illegal immigrants brought back to India by a US military aircraft late Saturday were arrested on arrival at Amritsar airport – two from Punjab for alleged murder and another from Haryana on charges of sexual assault on a minor.
A fourth deportee, son of a Punjab cop, was detained in connection with two pending FIRs against him for dacoity and snatching. Cousins Sandeep Singh and Pardeep Singh from Punjab’s Rajpura, both named in a murder case registered in June 2023, were remanded in police custody for three days in Patiala.
Sahil Verma of Pehowa in Haryana’s Kurukshetra stands accused of fleeing the country after the sexual assault case against him was filed in 2022. He spent time in Vietnam and then in Italy before entering the US illegally last month, SHO Janpal Singh of Pehowa city police station said. Haryana police took Sahil to Kurukshetra.
Besides rape, he faces multiple other charges, including criminal intimidation, under IPC and Pocso Act.
The FIR against the Punjab duo was based on a complaint by Harmajot Singh of Mandoli village in Patiala, accusing them of murdering a relative of the latter.
Gurwinder Singh, 27, from Ludhiana district’s Sasrali village, is also likely to be arrested, police said. A non-bailable warrant had been issued against him in a 2021 case of snatching after he went missing.
The pending dacoity case was registered in Faridkot.
