Rohit Sharma gets support from 1983 World Cup winner after Adelaide loss
Former India cricketer Kirti Azad has jumped to Rohit Sharma’s defence after India’s crushing 10-wicket defeat in the second Test against Australia in Adelaide. Notably, India skipper joined the team after missing the first Test in Perth due to the birth of his first child but failed to contribute with the bat getting dismissed for 3 and 6 across two innings.
Following India’s loss, Rohit has been subjected to widespread criticism for failing to lead his team from the front like Jasprit Bumrah did in the first Test. However, Azad defended the India skipper saying that everyone loses their mind in the country after a loss and start demanding the captain’s resignation.
“It’s very strange in our country; if somebody doesn’t do well, he should be dropped. If somebody loses, then his captaincy should go. The problem is 140 crore people, because they see it on television where everybody is an expert,” Azad remarked, as quoted by News18.
Further speaking ahead, Azad mentioned that the loss in the second Test was more of a surrender by India and they need to put up a strong fight back in the third Test.
“The second Test was more of a surrender by India than a victory by Australia. But then you can’t take it away from Australia. They did. They are known for the comebacks. So, it’s a tough opponent, and we have to fight and see to it that we put them behind in Gabba,” he added.

Meanwhile, India have a serious concern heading into the third Test as Bumrah suffered an injury scare in Adelaide. The speedster suddenly fell on the ground bowling the 81st over of the Australian innings.
He was immediately attended by the team’s physio but later completed his over. However, when he returned to bowl in the second innings, the speedster looked far from his best clocking in the 120s. Several experts have raised concerns on Bumrah’s fitness ahead of the Brisbane Test and if the senior speedster misses out in the third game it will be a huge concern for the visitors.
