RCB vs DC: In-form RCB aim to extend dominance as KL Rahul returns to Chinnaswamy
The Indian Premier League returns to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium this Saturday for an afternoon clash that feels more like a homecoming than a routine fixture. All eyes will be on KL Rahul, the local favourite and Delhi Capitals’ batting mainstay, as he faces a Royal Challengers Bengaluru side that has looked formidable since winning their maiden title in 2025.
Nearly a month into IPL 2026, RCB have evolved into one of the most complete units in the competition. They will be keen to reinforce that reputation against a struggling Delhi Capitals outfit. Much of the spotlight has been on Virat Kohli, and the batting talisman has delivered, holding the Orange Cap. Yet, this RCB batting line-up no longer revolves solely around him.
RCB’s GREEN INITIATIVE
In a tradition dating back to 2011, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will don their green jerseys for this home fixture as part of their “Green Initiative.” The move symbolises the franchise’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Made from recycled materials, the kits underline RCB’s status as a carbon-neutral T20 franchise, while also promoting accountability and encouraging fan participation in eco-friendly efforts.
THE ‘GREEN’ CURSE FOR VIRAT
While the green jersey remains a fan favourite, it has not always brought luck to Virat Kohli. The current Orange Cap holder in IPL 2026 with 228 runs has endured mixed returns when RCB steps away from their traditional colours.
Kohli’s most memorable outing in green came in 2016, when he smashed 109 off 55 balls against Gujarat Lions. However, despite solid contributions including a 62 in 2025 and a 73 in 2014, RCB have often found themselves on the losing side in this kit.
With Kohli in strong touch this season, including a recent 49 off 34 as an Impact Substitute, RCB will hope to finally put the so-called “green curse” behind them.
RAHUL’S FORTRESS: CHINNASWAMY
KL Rahul has consistently thrived at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, scoring 544 runs in 20 innings at an average of 41.84. His strike rate at the venue stands at 145.45, with the highest score of 93 not out.
His familiarity with the conditions could prove to be Delhi Capitals’ biggest weapon against the home side.
THE RCB JUGGERNAUT
Royal Challengers Bengaluru head into this clash in strong form, having dominated opponents through the 2026 campaign. Their only stumble came against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
Captain Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Phil Salt and Tim David have all made decisive contributions with aggressive strokeplay, consistently stepping up in crucial moments. Patidar, in particular, has stood out with his remarkable six-hitting spree, topping the charts with 21 maximums from five matches, three more than Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
That collective firepower has allowed Kohli to bat with greater freedom, secure in the knowledge that the responsibility is shared across the line-up.
Barring that blip, Bengaluru have played fearless cricket and will look to dismiss Rahul early to prevent him from anchoring the innings.
DC SEARCH STABILITY
In contrast, Delhi Capitals are still searching for stability. Despite boasting experienced names such as KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller and Nitish Rana, consistency has eluded them. Even their fifth-place standing with four points feels misleading given their performances.
Young Sameer Rizvi has been the lone bright spot, scoring two half-centuries, but the broader batting struggles have been evident in consecutive defeats. Their two wins this season have come against Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, both of whom have endured difficult campaigns themselves.
Captain Axar Patel’s form has also been a concern. He has managed just three wickets and scored only three runs in four matches, reflecting a broader dip in all-round impact.
The inconsistency extends to their bowling. Kuldeep Yadav has struggled for rhythm, picking up just three wickets while conceding close to 10 runs per over. Pacers Mukesh Kumar and T Natarajan have also failed to deliver consistently.
RCB TEAM NEWS
The primary fitness concern for RCB is Virat Kohli, who picked up an ankle injury against Mumbai Indians. He featured as an Impact Substitute against Lucknow and may again be used primarily as a batter.
DC TEAM NEWS
Delhi Capitals will be without Mitchell Starc, who is yet to join the squad due to workload management by Cricket Australia. There is no clarity yet on his availability.
RCB VS DC: PITCH REPORT
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium is known for its batting-friendly surface, with matches often producing totals in excess of 200. The pitch offers consistent bounce and carry, favouring aggressive strokeplay.
Conditions are expected to be testing, with temperatures hovering between 35 to 36 degrees Celsius and humidity around 20 per cent.
