After roasting GT fielding, Shubman Gill leads by example with stunning CSK display

After being highly critical of Gujarat Titans’ fielding and even roasting them after their performance against KKR, Shubman Gill needed to walk the talk and set an example. He had to show his players how it was done on the field, and he did exactly that during the match against Chennai Super Kings.

There were two pieces of fielding magic from Gill on the field. The first one took place in the seventh over, when he produced a stunning throw to run out Kartik Sharma, who looked like he was going to be a menace for the home team in Ahmedabad.

Then Gill produced a catch of the season contender with a diving effort to send the marauding Shivam Dube back to the pavilion. The match ultimately ended with GT winning by 89 runs.

Gill was thrilled to see his side be more vigilant on the field and wanted the trend to continue in the playoffs.

“Catching was much better. Hopefully we continue to do so,” said Gill at the post-match presentation.

GILL SILENCE GESTURE EXPLAINED

It was a night when the cheers were mostly for CSK than the home side. Following his catch of Dube, Gill decided to shush a section of the fans in an emotional moment for the GT skipper.

When asked about the celebration, Gill said in a game like this, the emotion was always bound to he high.

“When you are playing such a high emotion game, that kind of thing can happen,” said Gill.

Gill was one of the heroes with the bat for GT, scoring 64 off 37 balls as the home side posted 229 runs in the first innings. The Gujarat captain was happy with his performances so far with the bat, as he has scored 616 runs from 13 matches.

So it wasn’t a surprise that he had an angry reaction when he got out, something he explained as looking at what he could have done different in the end.

“Very happy with how am I am batting. When you get out, you always think of what you could have done differently, but overall, I am happy with the way I am going,” said Gill.

GT now wait to see the result of the RCB vs SRH game to see whether they will play Qualifier 1 or the Eliminator once the playoffs begin.
