Fresh off Lord's heroics, Rohit Sharma arrives in style for The Hundred opener

Fresh off his heroics from the Lord’s ODI between India and England, Rohit Sharma arrived in style at the Oval to enjoy The Hundred opener between MI London and Sunrisers Leeds. Despite India losing the series decider at Lord’s, Rohit silenced his critics with a well-made 138 off 110 balls.

Rohit was seen interacting with the fans and posing for a couple of selfies before making it to the stands for the game. The former India captain was present to watch MI London, the sister team of his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. Rohit was also seen in an intense chat with MI owner Nita Ambani.

ROHIT SHUTS DOWN RETIREMENT TALK

Going into the Lord’s ODI, Rohit was under serious scrutiny, as reports suggested that the BCCI were ready to move on from him after the end of the England tour.

Rohit had struggled in the eight ODIs before the match at Lord’s, scoring 241 runs at an average of 30.1 and a strike rate of 88.6, with just one fifty to his name.

While BCCI suggested that Lord’s ODI wouldn’t be Rohit’s final game for India, all eyes were on him to see how the Indian opener would respond.

In vintage Rohit style, the former India captain let his bat do all the talking in the match. Chasing a tough target of 388, Rohit put on 147 run stand with captain Shubman Gill, before launching an all-out attack on the England bowling.

Rohit got to his hundred off just 84 balls, much to the delight of the crowd present inside the stadium. With this, Rohit also became the first Indian to score an ODI hundred at the Home Of Cricket.

Speaking after the game, Rohit simply put all retirement talk to bed, saying that his job was to simply go out and play and represent his country and not care about the outside noise.

“My job is with the bat. Come and play, represent my country. That’s what I have been told to do since I made my debut. That’s what I am going to do,” Sharma stated flatly. “Since I made my debut, the noise was there. Till the time, I am going to be there, the noise will be there. Doesn’t matter to me. What matters is what I do on the field. I want to try and contribute to the success of the team. That’s all my focus is.”

“If there is no noise, there is no fun. My job is inside. Their job is outside. That’s how I look at it,” said Rohit.

Rohit is expected to be in action next when India take on the West Indies in an ODI series, which will begin in late September.
