US Open Day 8 schedule: Sabalenka, Alcaraz headline fourth-round action

The 2026 US Open enters its second week on Sunday, September 6, with the fourth round taking centre stage at Flushing Meadows. The round of 16 features several of the tournament’s biggest names, with defending champions Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz among those beginning their push towards the quarter-finals.

Sabalenka, the women’s top seed, will resume her title defence against American Taylor Townsend. The Belarusian is chasing a third consecutive US Open crown and has been one of the most consistent players in the draw so far, while Townsend will have the home crowd behind her as she looks to reach the quarter-finals.

Alcaraz will also face American opposition as the second seed takes on 20th-seeded Tommy Paul on Arthur Ashe Stadium. The defending champion is targeting an eighth Grand Slam title and will be tested by Paul, who has already battled through a demanding path to reach the last 16.

The schedule also features several intriguing clashes involving other major contenders. American eighth seed Ben Shelton takes on Stefanos Tsitsipas, while 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev faces 11th seed Frances Tiafoe. On the women’s side, third seed Jessica Pegula meets 16th seed Sorana Cirstea, while Emma Navarro and Anna Kalinskaya also battle for a quarter-final place.

With the tournament now entering its second week, every match carries greater significance as the remaining players look to secure their place in the final eight. The fourth-round action will be spread across Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium and Grandstand.
