Watch: Magnus Carlsen swaps chess pieces for a day of golf during GCL run
Magnus Carlsen may be the king when it comes to the chessboard but the Norwegian showed that he can handle himself well on the golf course. Carlsen was part of a golf outing in Bengaluru amidst the Global Chess League action on September 9.
If the images and video from the event are anything to go by, the World No.1 showed his laser-sharp focus during the outing, hitting his shots with perfection and ease.
Apart from Carlsen, Divya Deshmukh and Adhiban Baskaran were also in action during the golf outing.
CARLSEN’S LOVE FOR GOLF
Carlsen has been vocal about his love towards golf as he plays the sport as a hobby to wind down when he is away from chess. During an interview, Carlsen even suggested he would have picked being a world champion in golf rather than chess.
He also said that advantage about golf is that you can play the sport for a long time.
“The thing about golf is that you can play until you’re old,” said Carlsen in 2023.
CARLSEN SHOWS CLASS BACK ON CHESS BOARD
Carlsen played a big role in helping Alpine APL Pipers complete a double on close contenders CheQ Mumba Masters to take the top spot in the overall standings.
The Pipers defeated Mumba Masters 11-6 and Carlsen played a solid game to defeat Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in 31 moves.
Carlsen is back in the GCL after missing last season and will be hoping to power the Pipers to a title win.
