PM Modi's felicitation of Indian teams postpones BCCI's IPL stakeholder meeting
The BCCI’s planned meeting with IPL stakeholders, scheduled to take place on Thursday, has been deferred, Board Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on Tuesday. The board had convened the meeting for October 15 to discuss matters concerning the IPL, which is set to celebrate its 20th season next year.
The schedule change follows an invitation for BCCI officials to attend a felicitation ceremony hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 15. The Indian men’s and women’s teams are set to be honoured for their gold-medal-winning campaigns at the recently concluded Asian Games.
“The meeting with the IPL Franchise Owners, CEOs, IPL Hosting State Associations and Broadcasters, scheduled to be held on October 15, 2026, in Mumbai, has been postponed,” Saikia said in a BCCI statement.
“The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India is scheduled to felicitate the Indian men’s and women’s teams for their outstanding performances at the recently concluded 20th Asian Games on October 15, 2026, in New Delhi. Accordingly, BCCI officials will be required to attend the felicitation ceremony.”
Saikia added that several stakeholders had also approached the Board, requesting that the meeting be rescheduled.
“In view of the above, and with a view to facilitating maximum participation in person, it has been decided to postpone the meeting,” said Saikia.
The BCCI secretary added that details regarding the rescheduled meeting, including its date and venue, would be announced at a later stage.
PM Modi is set to host India’s Asian Games medallists, cricketers and other sporting achievers at his residence on October 15. The interaction, scheduled for 4:30 pm, will see athletes from various disciplines come together following their achievements on the international stage.
India finished fourth in the overall standings at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, securing 85 medals, including 21 gold. The contingent made a strong recovery in the latter stages of the competition, climbing from eighth to fourth place to equal its position from the previous edition in Hangzhou.
The gathering is expected to recognise the athletes’ accomplishments and celebrate India’s strong showing at the continental competition, bringing together medallists from a wide range of sporting disciplines.
