Musheer Khan produced a memorable all-round performance against Haryana on Wednesday, becoming the sixth Mumbai cricketer to score a century and take a five-wicket haul in the same Ranji Trophy match. The 21-year-old joined an illustrious list featuring former India captain Ravi Shastri, who was the last Mumbai player to achieve the feat, in the 1990-91 season.

Musheer, younger brother of India batter Sarfaraz Khan, followed his first-innings century with figures of six for 85 as Mumbai bowled Haryana out for 270 on Day 3 of their Ranji Trophy 2026-27 encounter at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai.

Mumbai had posted 430 in their first innings, with Musheer scoring 109 off 185 balls. Angkrish Raghuvanshi also struck a century, making 114, while Tanush Kotian remained unbeaten on 52 to help the hosts build a substantial total.

Haryana’s reply was led by Nishant Sindhu, who scored an unbeaten 105, but Musheer’s left-arm spin proved decisive. He dismissed captain Ankit Kumar (35) and Himanshu Rana (27) on Tuesday before returning on Wednesday to run through the middle and lower order.

Musheer removed Dheeru Singh, Yashvardhan Dalal and Parth Vats before trapping Aman Kumar leg-before-wicket to complete his six-wicket haul. Haryana were eventually bowled out for 270, giving Mumbai a 160-run first-innings lead. Mumbai enforced the follow-on.

Musheer’s achievement places him alongside five Mumbai greats who have completed the century-and-five-wicket double in a Ranji Trophy match.

HUNDRED AND FIVE WICKETS IN THE SAME MATCH FOR MUMBAI

  • Madan Raiji vs Maharashtra at Bombay in 1947-48
  • Dattu Phadkar vs Madras at Madras in 1948-49
  • Vinoo Mankad vs Madras at Bombay in 1953-54
  • Polly Umrigar vs Maharashtra at Pune in 1957-58
  • Ravi Shastri vs Madhya Pradesh at Indore in 1990-91
  • Musheer Khan vs Haryana at Mumbai in 2026-27

The all-round performance builds on a promising start to the season. Musheer scored 65 against Chandigarh and 57 against Himachal Pradesh in Mumbai’s first two matches, showing consistency with the bat before converting his start into a century against Haryana.

He had also impressed in the Duleep Trophy in August, scoring 96 for West Zone. His performances underline his development as a red-ball all-rounder, with his left-arm spin offering Mumbai an additional bowling option.

Musheer scored 446 runs in eight matches and took 13 wickets during the previous Ranji Trophy season. He was subsequently picked up by Punjab Kings for Rs 30 lakh but did not get an opportunity to play in IPL 2026.
