The ambitious ‘Mana Badi Nadu-Nedu’ scheme for a complete facelift of the government schools in Andhra Pradesh has brought some impressive results.

While students and teachers are in awe looking at new and modern infrastructure, the schools have also become a talk of the town with many circulating ‘Before and After’ pictures of the schools in the state.

The modification of the government schools was taken up during the first phase of CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government’s flagship programme ‘Nadu-Nedu’ (Earlier-Today).

The YSR Congress Party government has launched a mega drive to revamp all government institutions within three years.

As part of the first phase of the ‘Nadu-Nedu’ scheme, over 15,715 establishments have been taken up by the government for a complete facelift.

Under this scheme, the authorities have been asked to ensure the selected schools are provided nine basic amenities. These are:

  • Clean toilets with running water
  • Drinking water supply
  • Major and minor repairs
  • Electrification work
  • Furniture for students and staff
  • Green chalkboards
  • Painting of schools
  • English labs
  • Compound walls

While the flagship programme and the intention behind it are enough to attract eyeballs, the Andhra Pradesh government going one step further and ensuring the maintenance of each of these newly-built structures or facilities is the icing on the cake.

The state has already made English education compulsory in primary schools. It is also providing Rs 15,000 financial assistance to mothers for sending their children school. The state government are providing uniforms, school bags, and shoes to all the students.
