Delhi: Absconding criminal involved in double murder and robbery arrested

A team of south-western range of the Special Cell in Delhi arrested an absconding and rewarded criminal named Sunny Phogat Fauzi and seized an illegal semi-automatic pistol with 05 live cartridges of 7.65 mm from him.

Sunny was nabbed by Delhi Police from the bordering areas of Delhi and Sonepat, Haryana.

Phogat, 34, has been involved in a double murder and robbery case in Delhi. A cash reward of Rs. 50,000 had been declared by the Delhi Police on his arrest.

On February 7 last year, Sunny Fauzi along with his associates killed 2 businessmen in Mehrauli, Delhi. On the same day, after committing the crime, Sunny and his aides robbed a car in the Neb Sarai area.

An FIR was registered against him and he was arrested by Delhi Police.

A month later Sunny was granted interim bail for 14 days on the ground of treatment and medical conditions of his mother. After some time, he came in contact with another notorious gang of Neetu Dabodia and became an active member of this gang. Presently he is in close contact with the interstate gangster Rohit Chaudhary, whose gang is active in Delhi-NCR region.

A search operation was conducted by Special Cell after it received information about the absconding criminal.

After receiving a tip-off, the Special Cell conducted a search operation on July 6 at various places in Delhi — Guru TegBahadur Memorial, Singhu Border, and GT Karnal Road. The police spotted the criminal, however, Sunny managed to escape.

Later on, the criminal was finally nabbed from Haryana.

HISTORY OF THE CRIMINAL

Sunny hails from Haryana. He completed his graduation from MD University, Rohtak, Haryana. In 2005, he was selected in BRO Rohtak and joined as constable (GD) in 36 Bn. Assam Rifles, where he was promoted as head constable in 2008.

During his service, he also procured an arms license and a legal arm for his personal safety.

In December 2011, he came to his village on leave for two months. During that period, he came into contact with local gangsters, who were active in Delhi/NCR. Soon, Sunny was involved in a murder case along with his other friends.

To avoid apprehension, in that case, he left his house and was hence missing by Assam Rifles. Ultimately, he left his job from Assam Rifles and started working as a bouncer and PSO of businessmen.
