There is something about extremes that fascinates us, be it the unconventional shapes and sizes of food items like miniature food or the extravagance of overly priced gold ice creams, the further away from reality these items are, the more intriguing they are. Many of us might not even be interested in trying these ourselves, but we sure do get curious by the short span of attention that these food items receive. India is not far behind when it comes to these extravagant creations. We are, after all, a country obsessed with the ‘jugaad’ culture and we did manage to pull up some strings and present to the world what might be one of the most expensive Indian mithais ever.

Get ready for a sweet and sharp dig to your pockets, because this mithai costs a whopping INR 50,000 per kg. Yes, you read that absolutely right. An Indian sweet shop has come forward with this gold-plated delicacy that is served in the most royal way possible. A recent video by food blogger ‘foodie incarnate’ gives us a much closer look at this mithai. The blogger explains that he got a four-piece package that costs him INR 2000. He further takes a bite of the mithai and giving an honest review, states that the sweet tastes “Pretty normal”. The video has received 727k views, 82k likes, and 753 comments. Look at it there:

One comment read “No thanks.. normal test h to kon khana chahega” (No thanks, why would anyone have it if it tastes normal), “Normal test h to kya matlab itne paise de k” (If it tastes normal then what’s the point of paying all this money) states the other.

Some other comments left on the video are hilarious. Most of the viewers are shocked beyond belief and many of them are comparing how they can get a yearlong supply of mithai with the same price. “Ek saal ke liye mitahi khaa sakte hain is rate main”(We can have mithai for a year on this rate) read one comment, while the other read “Price se hi sugar badhega” (Just the price is enough to shoot up your sugar levels). “Bhai etne mai. 50 kg Desi ghee ke laddoo le aaouga” (I will get 50kg desi ghee ladoos in the same price) and “50k halwai ghar aakar saal bhar mithai khilayega” (A halwai will come to your home and make mithai for you yearlong in this price) were some other comments on the video.

Many also applauded the blogger for honestly reviewing the mithai and its taste, “Dukandar ke samne usike policy ki bezzati” (You criticised his policy in front of the vendor himself) and “I love the way you give honest review” read another comment. Many also pointed out that the packaging looks equally expensive and the box must add to the final cost as well.
