Neeraj Chopra scripted yet another history as he wins a silver medal at the ongoing World Athletics Championships 2022. With the latest achievement, the Olympic gold medallist became only the second Indian and first male track and field athlete to win a medal at the coveted championships in Eugene, Oregon. By clinching a silver in the javelin throw final, Chopra produced a best throw of 88.13m to finish second. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate Chopra on his win and wrote, “A great accomplishment by one of our most distinguished athletes! Congratulations to @Neeraj_chopra1 on winning a historic Silver medal at the #WorldChampionships. This is a special moment for Indian sports. Best wishes to Neeraj for his upcoming endeavours.” Meanwhile, Grenada’s Anderson Peters won the gold medal and Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch powered a bronze medal. Before Chopra, it was the legendary long jumper Anju Bobby George who became the first Indian to win a medal, bronze in the World Championships in the 2003 edition in Paris.
