A nod to Hanuman ji, Deepti Sharma scripts another ICC event masterclass
“I am grateful and Hanuman ji is great.”
Deepti Sharma was over the moon after heroics during the India vs Pakistan match as her love affair with ICC events continued. And there is a good reason behind it. The all-rounder wasn’t in the best of form coming into the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Deepti had just 14 wickets and 115 runs from 12 matches, with her spot in the team coming under the scanner. But when it comes to ICC events, the all-rounder quickly transforms into one of India’s key players.
In 20 matches in the Women’s T20 World Cup, Deepti Sharma has taken 24 wickets at an economy rate of 6.68 and an average of 21.12, with best bowling figures of 5/10, including one five-wicket haul.
In 23 matches in the Women’s ODI World Cup, the Indian all-rounder has taken 36 wickets at an economy rate of 5.05 and an average of 27.22, with best bowling figures of 5/39, including 1 five-wicket haul.
On Sunday, she once again stepped up to help India get over the line. Coming into bowl in the powerplay, she broke the opening stand for India and then provided the key breakthrough of Ayesh Zafar.
She picked three wickets in her final over to wrap up the game for her side. And it was exactly the same way she had finished her last ICC event, where she scored a fifty and took a five-wicket haul in the women’s ODI World Cup final.
“I like ICC tournaments, where I finished in the previous event, I started off from there,” said Deepti.
NO WORRIES ABOUT FORM
Despite being on a lean phase, Deepti said she was never worried about her form and always believed in herself to deliver at the right time for the team.
“Actually, I was not worried when I did not get wickets. I always believed in myself that whenever the right time will come, I will always step for the team and that is how I play and bowl,” said Deepti.
With that performance, Deepti went to the top of the bowling charts in women’s T20Is and edged closer to breaking Jhulan Goswami’s record for most wickets in women’s cricket.
