GUWAHATI: A day after people dressed in khaki and posing as security personnel on combing operations raided a village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district and gunned down three people, the Army said on Saturday it has intelligence inputs to suggest that “miscreants” might also masquerade as troops and enter villages to create trouble.
“Not every fatigue, as (it) is colloquially referred to, needs to be of Army or Assam Rifles. Requesting media to be diligent and refrain from using the word interchangeably. Intelligence inputs on miscreants masquerading as our troops to enter villages and foment trouble exist,” the Army’s III Corps tweeted.
It added, “Security forces are working together with utmost synergy to protect lives, property and bring peace in Manipur. Miscreants’ inimical actions will be appropriately responded. We remain committed to undertake people friendly operations and CBMs to reassure safety and security to everyone .”
Manipur information and public relations minister Sapam Rajan told the media that the state was largely peaceful on Saturday, with no untoward incident being reported in the last 24 hours.
At present, the state has 349 relief camps housing over 50,000 displaced people, he added. He said the state government will announce on Monday a mechanism to help medical students continue their classes, which have been impacted for more than a month now due to the unrest in the state. Joint combing operations saw the recovery of 22 more weapons, mostly automatics, on Saturday.
According to official reports, of the 4,573 arms looted, security forces have so far recovered 990. On the other hand, 130 weapons of different types have been dropped in the giant box set up since Friday.
