Summer is here and so is the time to chug gallons of refreshing coolers. The very thought of coolers reminds us of lemon. From fresh lime soda to the desi nimbu paani- we get a range of lemon-based drinks during this season. As a result, we see a rise in the demand for lemons in the market. This year, with the arrival of the summer season, we can see the price of lemon has increased by leaps and bounds over the past few weeks. Reportedly, it is being sold for almost Rs. 90 per kg in Delhi’s Azadpur Mandi. As per an ANI report, it is being sold at Rs. 10 per piece in Hyderabad. On the other hand, the price in Gujarat has increased to Rs. 240 per kg.

“The prices have gone really high. Earlier, we used to purchase a whole lemon sack for Rs 700 which now costs Rs 3,500. We are selling a single lemon for Rs 10 and nobody is ready to buy it. Nobody is ready to accept that the prices have gone up and are leaving without the purchase of the lemons,” a vendor told ANI.

The hike in the price of lemon instantly took Twitter by storm. People took to the micro-blogging site to react to the surge in prices and as a result, memes and jokes on lemon started trending on Twitter.

“When life gives you lemons, Sell Them. #nimbu,” wrote one. Another tweet read, “Is this any new breed of nimbu……?” Another comment read, “Are the chaat waale bhaiya charging extra for nimbu in the chaat?”
