Australia and West Indies have announced their starting XIs for the first Test of their two-match series at the Adelaide Oval, starting Wednesday, January 17.

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite has introduced three new faces for the first Test. Kavem Hodge, Justin Greaves and Shamar Joseph will be making their Test debuts in Adelaide.

Meanwhile, Australia skipper Pat Cummins confirmed the addition of all-rounder Cameron Green to the team for the opening Test against West Indies.

After the retirement of David Warner, Steve Smith’s desire to open the innings has come to fruition. This allows Green, who boasts a remarkable first-class average of 65 at Number 4, to play in his preferred position. The reconfigured Australian team now provides an additional bowling option.

This move aims to balance the workload of key players such as Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and captain Cummins, each of whom played a critical part in the Test series against Pakistan.

On the visitors’ side, right-arm pacer Greaves from Barbados will be a key figure. Although Greaves possesses a solid first-class bowling record, averaging 22.76, he is expected to contribute more significantly with the bat.

Hodge, who has a first-class average of just under 30, will have the added responsibility of complimenting Gudakesh Motie with his left-arm orthodox spin.

After claiming two top-order wickets in their tour match last week at Karen Rolton Oval, Shamar will be hoping to fire against Australia as the West Indies aim to win their first Test down under since 1997.
