Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has broken his silence on the hospitalisation saga that happened in January. The Australian media had widely reported that Glenn Maxwell had to hospitalised on January 22, Friday after he had collapsed while partying with his friends. The media had then reported that ‘alcohol was involved’.

As the story spread like wildfire, Australia captain and coach (Pat Cummins and Andrew McDonald) took stock of the matter and in a press conference clarified that they were aware of the incident and asked Maxwell to take stock on his behaviour.

The batter returned to international cricket with the T20I series against West Indies and smashed a riveting hundred in the 2nd match. Speaking to the press in Adelaide, Maxwell spoke about the incident for the first time and said that it really affected his family.

“I think probably it affected my family a little bit more than it affected me,” Maxwell said on Sunday, 11 February after making the fastest T20 century on Australian soil.

“I knew I had that week off. And obviously that incident was less than ideal, and the timing. But I had that week off, I knew I had that week off away from the game,” Maxwell further added.

The all-rounder had hinted at the incident during the mid-innings break as well stating that he had finally broken the Adelaide curse.

“I got my parents here as well. So, um, had a few cursed Adelaide trips, Uh, with them coming over a couple of times. So I got injured. I think I broke my leg the last time they tried to come over to Adelaide. So, um, it’s nice to make this a positive one,” Maxwell told the broadcaster at the innings break.

The all-rounder said that his entire focus was now on the Australian team and the T20 World Cup, which starts in June, right after the Indian Premier League.

“And I came back and got back into my running, my gym program and it felt really good and refreshed once I got back. And it’s all been focused on getting myself ready for this (T20) series and what’s to come,” Maxwell said.

“We know we have got four international games until the (T20) World Cup and how it comes around pretty quick. And I just try to make sure I’m in as good a space that I can be for that tournament,” the all-rounder concluded.

Glenn Maxwell now has two centuries in his last three T20I matches. His last century came against India while playing in Guwahati right after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023.
