Australian Open 2025: Zverev relishing night matches in Melbourne after second round win

Alexander Zverev revealed that hes relishing night matches in the Australian Open 2025 after his second round win over Pedro Martinez on Wednesday, January 15 at Rod Laver Arena. Zverev beat his Spanish rival 6-1 6-4 6-1 in straight sets as he progressed to the third round of the tournament.
Following his win, the two-time semi-finalist admitted being ultra-aggressive in the initial rounds to save his energy. However, the German admitted that there will be long matches as he progresses ahead in the tournament.
Yeah, I mean, usually I, I play 7-6 in the 5th, you know, 6-4 in the 5th, 4.5 hours, entertain you guys a bit. I’m getting older, so I have to maybe shorten things up a little bit, maybe not be as entertaining for you guys, but hopefully I’ll be more of that in the later rounds, said Zverev during his on-court interview after the match.
Furthermore, Zverev revealed enjoying playing during the night time after his first two victories, mentioning that the atmosphere is better at that time.

I think the atmosphere is even better at night: Zverev
I mean it’s the 2nd night match today with the roof closed, I actually enjoy it. I really like playing night matches here. I think the atmosphere is even better, at night, so, I really, really enjoy it. Every time I get the opportunity to come out here during a night session, I try to make the most of it and hopefully it’s not going to be the last one this year and I’m looking forward to what’s going to happen in 2 days’ time, he added.
Meanwhile, after comfortable victories in the first two rounds, Zverev will next face Jacob Fearnley in the third round on January 17. The British player is coming into the game on the back of victories against Nick Kyrgios and Arthur Cazaux respectively.
