BCCI to decide India's future Test captain and central contracts in Guwahati meeting

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are set to meet with the head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar to finalise the central contracts list for the upcoming season and potential future Test captain. India Today has learnt that BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia and other stake holders will meet on Saturday, 29th March in Guwahati to take several important decisions for the future of Indian cricket.

A source has revealed that star players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja are set to retain their A+ contract. Apart from them there will be inclusion of few new names in the list including Shreyas Iyer, who missed out from the contract last year due to reportedly missing domestic cricket.

India’s Champions Trophy 2025 hero Varun Chakravarthy is also going to earn a central contract. The board will also layout a path for Test cricket’s future to ensure smooth transition of the team. Decisions are likely to be taken on certain players’ availablity and future in Test cricket.

The Board will also discuss a potential candidate for future Test captaincy. India’s next Test series will be on the tour to England in June. Captain Rohit Sharma is unlikely to feature in the team and has opted out of the tour after his poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 (BGT 2024-25).
