Captain's corner: Suryakumar Yadav, Jos Buttler react to Adil Rashid's wizardry
Adil Rashid was the game changer for England on Tuesday, January 28, as England bounced back in the series with a 26-run win in Rajkot. Rashid’s disciplined bowling didn’t allow India to accelerate in the middle overs and his bowling received a lot of praise from Suryakumar Yadav and England skipper Jos Buttler.
Rashid registered figures of 1 for 15 in his 4 overs, and he got the big wicket of Tilak Varma with an absolutely brilliant delivery that spun back sharply and cleaned up the in-form batter. Apart from this, the veteran spinner scored 10 valuable runs in a partnership of 20 with Mark Wood, which proved to be crucial in the end as England registered a challenging 171 runs. India ultimately fell short and could only muster 145 runs in their 20 overs.
IND vs ENG 3rd T20I: Report | Highlights
Captain’s corner
Adil Rashid is a world-class bowler: Suryakumar Yadav
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Suryakumar said that he felt there could be a little dew in the second innings. The India captain claimed that India did have the game in their hands with Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel batting but Rashid ensured that the duo found it tough to score.
The Indian skipper hailed Rashid as a world-class bowler.
“I felt there would be little dew later in the day. I feel we had the game in our hands when Hardik and Axar were batting. Credit goes to Adil Rashid, he bowled really well. That’s why he is a world-class bowler. He didn’t allow us to rotate the strike,” said Suryakumar.
The Indian skipper felt that the team needs to learn from their shortcomings with the bat and need go back to the drawing board.
“We always learn something from a T20 game. We got to learn from the batting point of view. Got to go back to the drawing board and learn from our mistakes,” said Suryakumar.
Suryakumar was also happy with Mohammed Shami being back in the side and felt the pacer would get better in the coming matches. The Indian skipper also praised Varun Chakaravarthy for his performance as the spinner picked up 5 wickets for 24 runs in his 4 overs.
“I am sure Shami will do better going forward. He (Varun Chakravarthy) has been working really hard during practice sessions. He is disciplined and he’s getting those results on the field as a result of that hard work,” said Suryakumar.
Adil Rashid is the most important player in our team: Jos Buttler
Buttler was a happy man at the end of the day and was happy to see his fast bowlers adapt well to the Rajkot pitch.
“Yeah, the guys bowled really well. It was nice to show off the skills. Not only about how fast they bowl but about adjusting to the conditions,” said Buttler.
Speaking about Rashid, Buttler called him the most important player in their side and claimed England were lucky to have him as a part of the group.
“I have said it so many times, Adil is the most important player in our team. He has a lot of variations and we are fortunate to have him in our side,” said Buttler.
Buttler also said he doesn’t need to talk a lot to Jofra Archer, as the pacer bounced back after his poor showing in Chennai. The England skipper said he knew Archer was going to come back strongly.
“You don’t need to talk too much to Jofra. Even if he goes for 60, you know he is going to come back stronger,” said Buttler.
Variations is one of my strengths: Adil Rashid
Rashid commented on his delivery to Tilak and said that the ball gripped and turned for that ball to dismiss the in-form batter. The veteran spinner said that variations are one of his biggest strengths and the pitch was looking slow while they were batting.
On his partnership with Wood, Rashid said that their plan was to take the game deep and get as many runs as possible.
“We bowled really well as a unit. The ball gripped and turned (on the Varma dismissal). As you play more and get experience, you start developing things. That’s one of my strengths – the variations. It looked slow when we were batting, bit low and it wasn’t coming on to the bat, so as a bowling unit we had to adjust our lengths. Varied my pace and got the result. I work hard in the nets, hopefully I keep working on it and keep improving. We had a couple of overs left so me and Wood saw what we could get there, those 15-20 runs were crucial,” said Rashid.
Fans react to Adil Rashid’s performance
