The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested 3 cops of Delhi Police while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a victim. Those arrested include SS Chahal- SHO (Station House Officer), Badri Prasad- Constable and Jitendra- Constable. The cops were posted at Vijay Vihar Police Station, Rohini in New Delhi.

The federal probe agency on June 16 was approached by complainant Sunil Kumar Vats who alleged that the police officials are asking him to pay a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to construct a boundary wall at a plot which was bought by him 6 months back in Vijay Vihar.

Vats, in his complaint to the agency, said, “When I was constructing the boundary wall, few people came and told me that the said plot is theirs and asked me to stop construction.”

Vats dialled 100 and later submitted a written complaint to the Vijay Vihar Police Station. “SS Chahal, SHO of Vijay Vihar Police Station told me that I can construct the boundary wall and he will look after the matter. However, he demanded Rs 5 lakh for allowing the construction of a boundary wall on the plot. He threatened me that if the demanded bribe amount is not paid to him he will implicate me in a false case and put me behind bars,” said the complaint.

The information was verified and a team was tasked to catch the policemen red-handed. “CBI laid a trap and caught the constables accepting part payment of the bribe amount of Rs 2 lakh on behalf of the SHO,” said officials of the agency.

Later CBI officers searched the residential premises of all three accused in Delhi which led to the recovery of incriminating documents. During questioning, the probe agency learned that SHO Chahal was actively involved in demanding and accepting bribe through constables. Later, all of them were arrested.

The arrested policemen will be produced before the designated CBI court in Delhi for their custody.
