TIRUNELVELI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested an enforcement officer with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Tirunelveli, after he was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of 2 lakh.
According to official sources, officer P Kabilan demanded 5% of 3 crore received by a software company in Tirunelveli under the Union govt’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana, a scheme to boost creations of new jobs in the formal sector through support of EPF contributions for new employees.
The CBI received a complaint from the owner of the company that Kabilan demanded 15 lakh bribe and threatened to initiate action against the company if the amount was not paid.After registering a case, the CBI laid a trap for Kabilan and arrested him while taking a bribe of 2 lakh as an advance. Further investigation is on.
