Indian cricket team, much like the rest of the country, was glued to a TV set at The Village cricket ground in Dublin as they watched the successful soft-landing of Chandrayaan 3 on the Moon on Wednesday, August 23. Jasprit Bumrah and his teammates along with the support staff members of the Indian cricket team celebrated the landing hours ahead of the 3rd and final T20I against Ireland.

India’s all-format captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan also joined in the celebration from the country as the cricket fraternity was euphoric after the historic landing on Wednesday.

In a video shared by the Indian cricket board, the Indian players can be seen applauding the efforts of the Indian Space Research Organisation as Chandrayaan 3 made the successful soft landing in the south pole of the moon.

India became the very first nation in the world to achieve a lunar landing in the Moon’s enigmatic south polar region, marking a pioneering achievement that propels the country into the forefront of lunar exploration.

Rohit Sharma congratulated the Isro, saying it was a proud moment for each and every citizen of the country. Former captain Virat Kohli also expressed his joy with a post on X, formerly Twitter.

India has also become the fourth nation in the world to successfully land a rover on the Moon, after the United States, Russia, and China, etching its name in the annals of lunar exploration.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah highlighted the enormity of the achievement, saying the historic moment will resonate for generations to come.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the historic moon landing, lauding the hard work of the scientists.

“No country has reached there (the South Pole of the moon) before. With the hard work of our scientists we have reached there,” the prime minister said.

Kabhi kaha jata tha chanda mama bahut door ke hain, ab ek din wo bhi ayega jab bacche kaha karenge chanda mama bass ek tour ke hain (Earlier children used to say Moon is far, but now they will the Moon is just a tour),” PM Modi said.

Scientists and officials clapped, cheered and hugged each other as the spacecraft landed and as the government now looks to spur investment in private space launches and related satellite-based businesses. “India is on the moon,” said S. Somanath, chief of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft landed on the lunar south pole.

This was India’s second attempt to land a spacecraft on the moon and it came less than a week after Russia’s Luna-25 mission failed.
