Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino praises his players after Liverpool draw: We deserved to win
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino was thrilled with his team’s performance in their draw against Liverpool in their opening match of the new Premier League campaign.
Chelsea and Liverpool faced off in a highly anticipated Premier League match at Stamford Bridge. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, marking an exciting start to the season for both teams.
The match was a thrilling display of skill and strategy from both sides. Liverpool’s Luis Diaz opened the scoring in the 18th minute, converting a well-placed cross from Mohamed Salah. However, Chelsea fought back and found an equalizer in the 37th minute when debutant Axel Disasi scored on his Chelsea debut, following a persistent effort by left wingback Ben Chilwell.
Despite the draw, both teams showed promise. Chelsea dominated much of the game after their goal, with new striker Nicolas Jackson putting in a strong showing. Liverpool, on the other hand, had 13 shots but only one was on target. The match ended with back-to-back opportunities for both teams, but neither could find the back of the net.
This was the first competitive game for Chelsea’s new manager, Pochettino, who praised his team’s performance.
“I’m so pleased with the performance overall,” the Argentine told reporters as quoted by Reuters. “I think we deserved to win because we conceded only one shot on target against a team like Liverpool … It’s only the start, it’s only the beginning.”
“When some difficult moments appeared, the team was there and then the crowd was fantastic,” he added.
Pochettino also hinted at future signings for Chelsea, as news of them agreeing a deal for Moises Caicedo has been doing the rounds.
“We need good players. Yes, we need to improve the squad,” he said when asked about Chelsea’s midfield.
“For sure we are going to improve the squad. It’s about finding, you know, the right profile, the right player to create the combination that we are maybe more solid.”
