NEW DELHI: Nominees for election to the Congress president post will be provided electoral rolls, said Madhusudan Mistri, chairman of the party’s central election authority.
The announcement comes after five Congress MPs wrote to him demanding that the rolls be made public to maintain “fairness and transparency” in the process.
Congress sources said that Mistry in his reply to the MPs said the rolls will be provided to aspirants as they file nomination for the president post.
Elaborating on the election process, Mistry said that a QR code will be given to each PCC delegate on his phone to convey that they are entitled to vote in the election for party chief or to contest for the post.

On September 6, five Congress MPs- Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, Karti Chidambaram, Pradyut Bordoloi and Abdul Khaleque- wrote to Mistry that the list of PCC delegates that make up the electoral college must be provided to all electors and potential candidates.
This must be done to verify who is entitled to nominate a candidate and who is entitled to vote, they had said.
Election for the Congress president is scheduled for October 17. The counting and declaration of results will be on October 19.
