India’s judo contingent has run into an unexpected hurdle ahead of the Commonwealth Games after the luggage of several athletes failed to arrive with the team in Glasgow, just days before the start of the competition.

The 16-member squad landed in the Scottish city from India, but the baggage of multiple judokas did not make the journey, leaving athletes without essential training equipment, according to PTI.

The missing luggage reportedly contains judogis, the traditional uniform worn during training and competition, along with other training gear. The delay has disrupted the team’s preparations with the judo events set to begin on July 31.

According to PTI, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has taken cognisance of the matter and is working with the concerned authorities to ensure the baggage reaches the athletes as soon as possible.

The incident comes as another logistical setback for the Indian contingent after a similar problem affected the country’s boxing team earlier this week.

India’s boxers had travelled to Glasgow following a training camp in Belfast, but the luggage of several athletes and support staff members failed to arrive with them. The delayed baggage also contained competition and training equipment, forcing the contingent to make alternative arrangements while awaiting its arrival.

With the Games schedule set to get underway, Indian officials will be hoping the issue is resolved quickly to minimise any disruption to the athletes’ final preparations.

The judo competition begins on July 31, giving the affected athletes limited time to recover their equipment before stepping onto the mat. While baggage delays are not uncommon during international travel, the back-to-back incidents involving India’s boxing and judo contingents have raised concerns over the logistical challenges faced by the team ahead of one of the country’s biggest multi-sport assignments of the year.

The IOA is expected to remain in touch with the airline and local authorities until all the missing luggage is delivered to the athletes, according to PTI.
