Delhi: Chhatarpur to have 10,000-bed Covid-19 facility


Delhi government has started identifying banquet halls, community halls and stadiums that can be potentially used for putting up additional beds, the largest such makeshift facility was identified at the South Delhi campus of spiritual organisation Radha Soami Satsang Beas. 

Amid a massive spurt in coronavirus cases in Delhi, government
is making efforts to increase the number of beds for patients.

Delhi government has started identifying banquet halls, community halls and stadiums that can be potentially used for putting up additional beds, the largest such makeshift facility was identified at the South Delhi campus of spiritual organisation Radha Soami Satsang Beas.

When India Today team reached the spot tents to divide area for beds arrangements were on the process. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Sunday inspected Radha Soami Satsang Beas campus in Chhattarpur area for setting up a facility with 10,000 beds for COVID-19 patients.

“Considering the increase in the demand for medical infrastructure, we have come here to inspect the area & check its feasibility. The decision to convert this campus into a COVID facility will be taken after analysis of several factors” said Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.

South Delhi’s Mehrauli SDM Sonalika Jivani told India Today after an inspection that up to 10,000 beds can be put under the tent.

“The biggest factor is that there should be space between patients. Apart from this, focus is to check ventilation and floor. We are planning polyvinyl flooring so it will ease the disinfection process. Ground to be divided in many area and each area will be covered from all the sides. 50 beds are included in one area” said SDM.

SDM Sonalika Jivani said that There will be specialized beds with oxygen and some basic beds for isolation. We have fixed the target of 15 days so we can start treating first patient of COVID. SDM told India Today that this is state level project and definitely Health Department of Delhi will play major role.
