Actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya will soon be seen playing a cop in Sonyliv’s Undekhi. The NSD pass out, who did theatres for almost 15 years before foraying into films, has been part of some amazing movies and series, which includes Monsoon Wedding, Dev D, Maqbool, Jamtara, Sacred Games and Delhi Crime, among others.

Undekhi is a crime-thriller and the makers have hardly revealed anything about the show. They’ve shared two teasers but the story plot still remains a mystery. In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, Dibyendu Bhattacharya spoke about the series and his role. And we tried to understand a little bit about the show.

“Two teasers are out. In the first, a murder happens in Sunderbans, where I am a cop investigating the case. And, in the second, a girl is murdered. The show is based on real-life incidents and focusses on two categories of people – the powerful and influential on the one hand, and on the other, those who have been suppressed for years. In the second teaser, the powerful use their influence to commit a crime. We’ve heard of many cases of the groom being shot or the bride being abducted. Incidents that are seen by many but has no witness,” said Dibeyndu.

He further added, “This show will haunt you. It has a social message. Jo seen hai woh kaise unseen ho jata hai. It is fast-paced, cohesive narrative, full of twists and turns. And the dynamics of the characters are interesting.”

– Dibyendu Ghosh

Dibyendu might be a cop but he is no Hathiram. Barun Ghosh is a lively character. “Yeh bahut hi zindadil character hai. He is not a ‘supercop’, which we usually see in mainstream cinema. He is quite a colourful character. He is witty, sharp and has enormous love for Bollywood films. At the same time, he has to prove himself as it is the last year of his service. It’s so much fun to play such characters, one enjoys getting to its core and enhance the uniqueness of the character,” added Dibyendu.

Dibyendu Bhattacharya was last seen in Lalbazaar as a mafia don, Abbas Ghazi. The actor enjoyed working in his native place, Kolkata. When asked what he enjoyed more, playing a don or a cop, he said, “I enjoyed both. I am an actor. Natya shastra ko pancham ved bola jata hai. An artiste is compared to Brahma, the creator. I am an artiste and every character holds equal importance for me.”

The emergence of the digital medium has given a chance to many fresh faces to be known. However, now even big stars like Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan are heading towards OTT platforms. When asked if this will pose a threat to the fresh faces, Dibyendu said, “It’s a catch-22 situation, you can’t help it. OTT platforms give an international platform. Earlier, to be an international star, one had to wait for an international agency to cast you and only specific roles were offered to you. Ab ghar baithe series kar rahe hai and it is releasing in 24 countries. The reach has increased. Everybody is in this industry to shoUndekhi new teaser shows another brutal murder.
