There was a time when it would take years of fighting a case in a court and untangle the legal complications to get a divorce.
However, this has changed now in the times of Corona as one of the family courts in Delhi granted divorce over video conference.
In this virtual divorce, both parties had filed for it with mutual consent. The virtual divorce was granted by the Family Court of Rohini District Court, Delhi. The ex-couple got married in May 2017, but only after a few months of marriage, differences erupted between them and they started living separately since December 2018.
According to a recent Supreme Court order, if the husband and wife are living separately for over a year, they can apply for divorce on basis of mutual consent. A divorce petition was filed in 2019 by both of them under Section 13B (2) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
Though the ex-couple was living separately for more than a year, the court still gave them few more months to perhaps reconcile the relationship. But, the couple again filed for divorce.
