Another day, more records are being broken by BTS! The world’s biggest boyband from South Korea is a cultural phenomenon. The seven members – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook – released their first English single ‘Dynamite’ on August 21, 2020. Not only have they brought back the old-school Disco pop era and the song is super catchy, but they have also been smashing records one after another.

'DYNAMITE' by BTS becomes fastest song in history to reach No. 1 in 100 countries, obliterates Youtube premiere viewing record

Dynamite has become the fastest song in the iTunes history to reach the No. 1 position in 100 countries in just 8 hours of its release. This makes their group’s fifth song to achieve this milestone. Previously, ‘Moon’, ‘Black Swan’, ‘Your Eyes Tell’, and ‘My Time’ have crossed the mark of 100 countries and even broke Adele’s long-standing record with ‘Hello’. In addition to it, the group’s member V’s solo work ‘Sweet Night’, an OST for a Korean drama Itaewon Class, continues to reach No. 1 in 116 countries, as of now.

On the Indian iTunes chart, ‘Dynamite’ grabs No. 1 spot followed by the instrumental in second position. In addition to that, ‘Spring Day’ has jumped up and bagged the third position.

BTS now is the first and only act in history to have five songs that have reached No. 1 in 100 countries. They are also the first and only act to have a Korean, English, and Japanese single achieve No. 1 milestone in 100 countries.

Coming back to ‘Dynamite’, not just iTunes, the retro-themed track has obliterated a record on Youtube too. Though the platform is yet to confirm, the video had more than 3 million live concurrent viewers and crossed 4 million mark right after it premiered. The music video has surpassed 50 million views on YouTube in just 8 hours & 16 minutes.

At the online press conference earlier in the day (as per Korea Herald), RM said, “The release of ‘Dynamite’ wasn’t in our plans at all. As soon as we heard it, we thought it was really fun and exciting, fun and cheery song that wasn’t that serious. It just made us feel good when we heard it. We really wanted to share this energy with the fans as soon as possible.”

Adding to that, Suga said, “‘Dynamite’ is a bright, cheerful disco pop with a message of confidence and happiness.” Reflecting on the same sentiments, Jin added, “It’s a song that BTS wants to say at the moment.”

J-Hope was quick to add, “I absolutely, absolutely loved the track’s melody and vibe, and we wanted to share that with many people. We tried our best to deliver the good vibe that we got when first hearing the song, so we did our best to deliver that feeling.”

V talked about the current pandemic situation and how they wanted to make a song to make their fans happy. “Everyone, not just us, is having a hard time. The reason we are releasing a song that wasn’t a part of our plan was because of this crisis. Many things we planned didn’t happen either. Through this period, we again have reaffirmed our love for music. But most importantly, we realized the importance of people who listen to our music. We need them to do music. We sincerely hope ‘Dynamite’ will deliver them the strength needed,” he said.

Jimin said, “We are releasing ‘Dynamite’ because we want people to be happy. And to be happy, you have to take care of your health. So I hope our fans will keep wearing masks and won’t get sick.”

“The choreography is quite easy this time, so I believe a lot of fans could dance to it in their rooms. All members also have an opportunity to show their unique charms and gestures,” Jungkook said.

‘Dynamite’ B-side music video will release on August 25 at 12 am KST (Aug 24 8:30 IST). Their first performance of the song will be at Video Music Awards 2020.

On that note, “Shining through the city with a little funk and soul / So I’ma light it up like dynamite, woah.”
