England wouldn't have even scored 100 if not for Mark Wood: Aakash Chopra says visitors 'let themselves down' in Rajkot

Former India batter Aakash Chopra slammed England’s batting display in Rajkot, saying they wouldn’t have even scored 100 runs if not for pacer Mark Wood’s late flourish. India bowled out England for 112 runs in the final innings to win the third Test by a massive margin of 434 runs in Rajkot.

India took a 2-1 lead over the visitors after winning the third Test of their five-match series at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. After posting a 557-run target for England, India bundled the visitors out for 112 runs on Day 4 to register their biggest win in terms of runs in Test cricket history.

Speaking on his Youtube channel after the game, Chopra said England would not have even scored 100 runs if not for Wood’s late flourish. Wood smashed 33 runs off 15 deliveries, hitting six boundaries and a solitary six before being dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja.

“Mark Wood scored 33 runs in the end or else this team wouldn’t have even scored 100. You couldn’t bat 50 overs. You didn’t play one-and-a-half sessions. We are on daily wages, take a little care of us. We only get paid for the number of days we work. This wasn’t a 40-overs pitch. This was a much better surface and England actually let themselves down very badly,” said Chopra.

IND vs ENG, 3rd Test scorecard

He went on to say that England’s batting was a letdown while questioning their batting tactics against Jadeja’s bowling. Jadeja picked a five-wicket haul in the second innings after scoring his fourth Test hundred in the first innings.

“England’s batting was a letdown. The way they played was extremely ordinary. Ollie Pope was trying to play a cut shot and it went to hand. Joe Root was playing the sweep and the ball hit his pads. Jonny Bairstow also did the same thing. What are you doing? You are playing sweeps against Ravindra Jadeja at the pace he bowls,” Chopra added.

Following their win in Rajkot, India will take on England in the fourth match of the series at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on February 23 before locking horns in Dharamsala for the final Test on March 7.
