VIJAYAWADA: Senior Congress leader and the last chief minister of the undivided Andhra Pradesh, N Kiran Kumar Reddy, once again quit the Congress and joined the BJP. He went to Delhi on Thursday and held consultations with top BJP leaders.
He joined the BJP in the presence of Union minister Prahlad Joshi and other senior leaders besides Telangana BJP MP Dr Lakshman.
This was the second time that Kiran Kumar Reddy quit Congress. The first time he quit was when the state was bifurcated in 2014. He floated a regional party called Jai Samaikyandhra Party and contested unsuccessfully in the 2014 general elections.
Later, he returned to Congress after the 2019 general election. However, he did not take an active part in any of the party programmes. It was said that Kiran Kumar Reddy wanted a national-level position in the Congress, which was denied leading to his silence.
After joining the BJP, Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the combination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah was working well for the country. He said that he was impressed by this combination and had joined the party.
He criticised Congress for not taking state leadership seriously. He said that the Congress high command took several wrong decisions leading to the party’s washout in various states. He further said that the Congress high command doesn’t understand the ground realities and only believes in commanding things from the state-level leaders.
Explaining the adamant attitude of the Congress leadership, Kiran Kumar Reddy quoted a saying “My king is very intelligent, he doesn’t think on his own, doesn’t listen to anyone’s advice.” He said that the Congress high command too is intelligent and doesn’t think on its own and doesn’t listen to any leader from any state.
However, the former chief minister is yet to meet Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after joining the party.
