In Tamil Nadu, A Chunk Of Medical Colleges May Lose National Recognition
New Delhi:
Around 40 per cent of the state-run medical colleges in Tamil Nadu run the risk of losing the National Medical Commission’s recognition due to a shortage in the number of professors and assistant professors, said sources in the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association (TNGDA).
The issue may not be restricted to Tamil Nadu, NDTV has found.
Around 150 medical colleges in the country can lose recognition due to staff shortage, sources said. The list includes medical colleges in Gujarat, Assam, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Tripura and West Bengal.
The deficiencies and flaws were revealed during an inspection carried out by the Commission for over a month, in which they looked into CCTV cameras, biometric attendance, and the faculty rolls.
The medical colleges have the option to appeal, sources said. The first appeal can be made at the NMC within 30 days. The second appeal can be made to the Union Ministry of Health.
