IND vs AFG: 'Very calm' Rinku Singh is coming of age, says Rohit Sharma after heroics in 3rd T20I
Rohit Sharma heaped praise on Rinku Singh and claimed that the Indian star is coming off age after his heroics against Afghanistan in the third T20I on Wednesday, January 17.
In a stunning display of cricketing prowess, Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh delivered an unforgettable performance during the 3rd T20I against Afghanistan at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Indian team, initially struggling at 22/4, witnessed a spectacular turnaround as the duo forged an unbeaten partnership.
Together, they amassed a record-breaking 190 runs off just 95 balls, setting a new benchmark for the highest partnership for any wicket in Indian T20Is.
Rohit Sharma, who had faced criticism after consecutive ducks, silenced his detractors by scoring his fifth T20I century, becoming the only international player to achieve this feat. Rinku, complementing Sharma’s aggressive playing style, played a crucial role in the partnership. Their combined effort propelled India to a formidable total of 212/4, with the last five overs yielding a staggering 103 runs.
After India won the thrillier in the end, Rohit said at the post-match presentation that creating the partnership was important and they were talking to each other throughout.
“Creating the partnership was important and we (Rinku and I) kept talking to each other to not lose that intent in big games and it was a good game for us to be in, the pressure was there and was important to bat long and deep and not compromise on the intent we want to show,” said Rohit.
Rinku is very calm and knows his strengths
Rohit went on to praise Rinku and said that the batter is very calm and is coming of age and doing what is expected from him. The Indian skipper feels that the presence of a batter like Rinku augurs well for the side moving forward.
“The last couple of series that he played, he showed what he can do with the bat. Very calm and knows his strength pretty well. He is coming off age and doing what is expected of him and he has done really well for India. Augurs well for the team moving forward, wanted someone like that at the backend and we know what he has done in the IPL and he has carried that to the Indian colors as well,” said Rohit.
