Ben Foakes, on Monday, February 5, became the 12th England wicketkeeper in men’s cricket to achieve the landmark of 1000 runs in Test cricket.

Foakes was 28 runs short of the milestone before the second Test started. In the first innings, he scored 6 runs off 10 balls with 1 four before Kuldeep Yadav accounted for his wicket.

In the second innings, when he reached 22, the 30-year-old got to the 1000-run mark in the purest format of the game.

Alec Stewart, Alan Knott, Matt Prior, Jonny Bairstow, Thomas Godfrey Evans, Leslie Ames, Jack Russell, Jim Parks, Jos Buttler, Geraint Jones and Bob Taylor are the others to have reached the 1000-run landmark.

How has Ben Foakes performed of late?

In the second innings of the Visakhapatnam Test, Foakes showed a lot of resilience. Chasing a target of 399, England found themselves in a rabbit hole after being reduced to 220 for 7 in 52 overs.

From there on, Foakes scored 36 runs off 69 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Just when he was looking good for a half-century, Jasprit Bumrah accounted for his wicket.

Foakes gave a simple caught and bowled to Bumrah, who earlier achieved the landmark of 150 Test wickets. Foakes and Tom Hartley put on 55 runs for the eighth wicket to keep England in hunt.
