Young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has garnered praise from all over the cricket world for his batting display in the ongoing second Test against England, where he scored his maiden Test double hundred. Yashasvi hit his prolific maiden Test double hundred against England on Day 2 of the Vizag Test, helping his side post 396 in the first innings.

Unbeaten at 179 on day one, Jaiswal reached 200 with consecutive six and a four against Shoaib Bashir. Jaiswal is now the third-youngest Indian to score a Test double century, following Vinod Kambli and Sunil Gavaskar. Additionally, he is the first left-handed Indian opener to achieve this milestone against England.

The 22-year-old’s resilience and adaptability was often highlighted in his performance during his 1st innings with the bat at Vizag, which was praised by his childhood coach Jwala Singh.

Jaiswal’s explosive performance in the IPL 2023 season has elevated the left-handed batter to the status of one of the most promising talents globally. Jwala Singh, a coach instrumental in shaping Jaiswal’s career, emphasized the player’s consistent form across all formats, highlighting his distinctiveness within the Indian team.

“If you see his junior cricket, like when he was playing for Mumbai under-16s, he scored a double hundred, (also for) Mumbai under-19s, (in the) Irani Cup, Duleep Trophy and Vijay Hazare (Trophy). He has the knack of playing long innings with his aggressive natureâ€æ“In T20 cricket, he plays (with) a different attitudeâ€æ In Test cricket, he plays with a different approach. His adaptability and temperament is really different from the others and that makes him different from the other players,” Jwala Singh told PTI.

Singh highlighted Jaiswal’s shift in attitude following a disappointing IPL 2021 season, explaining how an intensive training regimen infused aggression into the young batter’s style. Singh openly praised Jaiswal’s noteworthy presence in the national squad and expressed optimism for even greater achievements from the player in the future.

“That time there was COVID in India. I took him to my native place at Gorakhpur and I used to tell him to hit as many sixes as he can against in a big ground against the spinnersâ€æ“He used to do lot of plastic-ball practice for pull and cut shots and also sweep shot against the spinners. I think that (was the) time he started developing many strokes and that really helped him,” Jwala Singh added.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s second innings with the bat at Vizag was abruptly halted as he mistimed a swinging delivery from James Anderson, resulting in a catch by Joe Root at slip. Despite his noteworthy performance in the first innings, Jaiswal departed the crease with a score of 17 off 27.
