India and China have different perceptions of the LAC, resulting, at times, in face-offs. The latest engagement is expected to provide them with an opportunity to address such issues directly through military channels. The talks follow a meeting in Beijing in Aug between national security adviser Ajit Doval and China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi. There, they agreed on an eight-point plan to improve how both countries manage the border, promising quicker action through diplomatic and military channels whenever issues pop up.
