India vs England: Spinner Jack Leach ruled out of remainder of Test series due to injury
Spinner Jack Leach will take no further part in the ongoing Test series between India and England due to a knee injury, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Sunday, February 11. In what will be a big blow to England’s chances in what has been an enthralling series, the tourists will be without their most experienced spinner for the last three Tests.
England confirmed that they would not call-up a replacement as they have 4 spinners, including part-timer Joe Root, in their squad.
Jack Leach picked up a knee injury in the first Test i Hyderabad that England won. The left-arm spinner did not take part in the second Test in Visakhapatnam and England did feel their absence. The ECB took the wait-and-watch approach as Jack Leach flew with the rest of the squad to Abu Dhabi after the 2nd Test to spend the 9-day break before the next assignment.
However, on Sunday, ECB confirmed that Jack Leach would head home from Abu Dhabi and work on his rehabilitation.
“He will fly home from Abu Dhabi in the next 24 hours, where the England team have been staying ahead of the third Test in Rajkot, which starts on Thursday. Leach will work closely with the England and Somerset medical teams in respect of his rehabilitation,” England Cricket said in a release.
