Yashasvi Jaiswal came up with a Virender Sehwag-esque knock that knocked the wind out of England’s sails on Day 4 of the 3rd Test against India at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Yashasvi converted his hundred into a double as he went on a six-hitting spree on Sunday, much to the delight of the healthy crowd over the weekend in the city.

What impressed the pundits and cricket fans more was Yashasvi’s maturity and his ability to adapt to conditions and game situations. The 22-year-old took his time to get going on Day 3 as India lost Rohit Sharma early in the second innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal was 35 off 73 balls on Saturday evening before cutting loose. His next 65 runs came off a mere 49 balls, punctuated with straight sixes and reverse-sweeps. This aggressive batting spree helped India amass 150 runs in the final session.

Yashasvi Jaiswal retired hurt on Saturday evening as he suffered a back spasm. However, concerns of another injury concern for India were doused when he walked out to bat after Shubman Gil’s run-out on 91 on Saturday.

Yashasvi had the license to go big on Sunday morning as India were chasing a 500-plus lead and he gladly accepted the invitation as he tore into the England bowlers. His hat-trick of sixes against James Anderson was one of the highlights of Sunday’s play.

Yashasvi and fellow Mumbaikar Sarfaraz Khan added a 172-run partnership in 26.2 overs as they made batting look easy on Sunday.

3 – Yashasvi also became the 3rd Indian batter after Vinoo Mankad and Virat Kohli to score more than one double hundred in a Test series.

12 – Yashasvi Jaiswal equalled Wasim Akram’s record for most sixes in a Test innings.

22 – Yashasvi hit the most sixes by a batter in a men’s Test series. He broke Rohit Sharma’s record of 19 against South Africa in 2019.

1 – Yashavi Jaiswal became the first Indian to convert his first three scores of 100 and more into 150-plus scores.
