Indian women’s team’s star all-rounder Deepti Sharma claimed her maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket for India as she returned with impressive bowling figures of 5/7 in just 5.3 overs against England women’s team in the one-off Test match at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who is captaining the Indian team for the very first time in Test cricket, won the toss and opted to bat first. The Indian women’s team posted a mammoth total of 428 runs in the first innings. Deepti Sharma produced a stellar show with both bat and ball as she also scored a 113-ball 67. Deepti had come in to bat when India were at 306 for 5. The all-rounder ensured that India crossed the 400 run-mark. In fact, debutants Shubha Satheesh and Jemimah Rodrigues along with Yastika Bhatia also scored fifty plus runs to guide India to post a big total on board.

In response, the England women’s team were well within the game and then Deepti came in to break the budding partnership of Danielle Wyatt and Nat Sciver-Brunt as she dismissed the former for 19 runs.

The England team suffered a dramatic collapse as they were reduced from 126 for 4 to 136 all out by the Indian bowlers. Deepti ran through England’s batting line-up to claim five wickets in a span of just 6 overs. Hence, the England women’s team were bundled out for a paltry 136 runs as Deepti’s magical spell did the job for India and with this, India established a substantial lead of 292 runs in the 1st innings.

An impressive display with the bat, followed by a superb bowling performance by the Indian women’s team put them in a commanding spot to win the one-off Test match against England women’s team. Remember, the team is playing a home Test match after a wait of 9 years and the team is giving their everything to have a memorable victory by a huge margin.
