IPL 2024: Video of Rohit Sharma fan burning MI cap goes viral after Hardik Pandya named captain
Fans were not happy after Rohit Sharma was replaced as the skipper of the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Instead, MI named Hardik Pandya as their captain for the upcoming season. Prior to the auction, Hardik was traded to the Mumbai-based franchise after he spent a couple of seasons with the Gujarat Titans (GT).
Rohit’s fans were agitated about the decision that was taken on Friday, December 15. A video has been going viral on social media platforms where a fan can be seen burning Mumbai Indians’ cap. The video was captioned as “Rohit Sharma over anything.”
Back in 2013, Rohit took over as the MI skipper from Ricky Ponting and changed the fortunes of the team. Out of the nine seasons that he captained the IPL team, Mumbai Indians won the title five times. Under Rohit, players like Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Tilak Varma flourished.
In the meantime, Mumbai dropped an emotional post on their social media handle, giving the 36-year-old Rohit tribute for his services over the years.
“Ro, In 2013 you took over as captain of MI. You asked us to believe. In victories and defeats, you asked us to smile. 10 years & 6 trophies later, here we are. Our forever captain, your legacy will be etched in Blue & Gold. Thank you, Captain RO,” MI wrote.
Hardik started his career with MI, after which he left the franchise before the 2022 season. He succeeded as the skipper of the Titans after leading them to glory in their very first season. In 2023, the Titans finished as the runners-up after losing to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), captained by MS Dhoni.
